Numerical solution of the equal width wave equation using the method of lines

摘要

The equal width wave equation is a mathematical model for the lossless propagation of long wavelength water waves in a long straight channel; it is solved numerically using the method of lines. The propagation of solitary waves is simulated to study the properties of the numerical scheme. Three invariants of motion are computed to assess the conservation properties of the numerical scheme.
