THE NEW HYBRID ELECTRONIC IGNITION CIRCUITS FOR DISCHARGE LAMPS

The ignition circuits are applied for generation of high voltage pulses initialising the discharge lamps. Proper work of such circuits ensures optimal conditions for lamp use, its prompt and reliable lighting. More often the electronic ballast are used for lighting fluorescent tubes. This enables to achieve serious saving of electric energy and deficit materials (steel and copper) as well. For lighting metal halide lamps and high-pressure sodium lamps the ignition circuits are used. Contemporary ignition circuits are exclusively electronic, and more often realised in thick-film technology. The paper contains the results of research works carried out in Private Institute of Electronic Engineering and Research and Development Centre for Hybrid Microelectronics and Resistors in Krakow. The works were dedicated for elaboration new hybrids thick film ballasts for fluorescent lamps - tube and compact types and ignition circuits for sodium and metal halide lamps. Electronic circuits used and technology of hybrid modules with application of specific integrated circuits (ASIC-s) are discussed. There are presented advanced technologies of assembling and packaging. The future trends of this pro-ecology group of hybrid circuits are discussed.
