摘要

The century-old domination of marine energy storage by lead-acid battery technology is under threat. This paper presents a brief description of the best-known alternative batteries, before providing information on the newest battery to become commercially available from the electric vehicle background. Continuing developments in battery and non-battery energy storage are summarised. Some technologies are identified as particularly suitable for specific duties, from the range of new requirements emerging from the development of naval platform concepts.
