This paper presents a scheme for the reconstruction of multiple cracks from ECT signals by means of genetic algorithms. Cracks usually occurs in a cluster under practical situations because of the concentration of stress and so on. The scheme takes not only the profiles of cracks but also the number of cracks as unknown, which is, therefore, a very important feature from the practical point of view. A fast forward code using a database is used for the rapid computation of the ECT signals due to multiple cracks. Two distinct genetic algorithms are adopted: a simple genetic algorithm and a parameter-free genetic algorithm. The significant reduction of the computational time is realized by means of a parallel computation on a supercomputer, which makes possible the identification of cracks within a reasonable time.
