Martensitic transformation and degradation characteristics for Fe-Pd ferromagnetic shape memory alloy were investigated by the developed AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy)/MFM (Magnetic Force Microscopy) hybrid nano-characterization technique. Martensitic transformation characteristics such as martensitic transformation temperature, reverse transformation temperature and martensite morphology for Fe-Pd alloy were able to be measured at microscopic or nanoscopic small area. Degradation under cyclic loading was also detected both in AFM and MFM images, especially in MFM images. It was found that the hybrid nano-characterization was very high-sensitive technique to detect degradation for ferromagnetic shape memory alloy.
