Chromium present in the ground, which is possibly liberated from soil particles, was simply determined based on a technique using chemiluminescence reaction. Fundamentally, it is naturally not easy to selectively determine metal ions contained in the ground on the spot in the field. This is because the energy to excite the metal ions and molecules prepared for photometric determination is to be provided whenever they are detected by means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry or visible absorption photometry. In chemiluminescence reaction, however, the energy is principally supplied by the reaction heat resulted from the chemical reaction while the reaction is proceeding. Thus, metal ions in the field can be determined without large instruments but with a small probe to be directly inserted into the ground which is connected with handy-scaled equipment. In any event, μg mL~(-1) levels of chromium in the ground were in facility detected with good selectivity by a brief manner.
