Today's production systems in the sector of life sciences do not follow the products' trends towards smaller size, higher accuracy and greater variety. Especially small to medium sized companies are facing the problem of scaling up their innovative processes for applications in analysis, medicine and production technology towards an industrial-like production. In front of this background, a miniaturized module- and device kit system with standardized interfaces has been realized, giving the user the opportunity to create a specific, tailor-made production line within a short period of time. A highly available distributed control system is capable of identifying and integrating all connected process modules into the process flow dynamically. The configuration of a production line is assisted by an interactive software-tool, that features layout planning, simulation and tele-operated monitoring of the MiniProd system.
