A detailed investigation of microcrystalline decomposition products obtained in the γ-FeOOH dehydration process was carried out. In the processes of thermal and mechanochem-ical γ-FeOOH dehydration the obtained products were the same (γ-Fe_2O_3 and α-Fe_2 O_3), but they exhibit different properties. The study elucidates the observed interesting relaxation effects (su-perparamagnetism, superferromagnetism) of the obtained nano-dimensional iron oxide particles for both reactions.
