Superabrasive point grinding was shown to be a valid manufacturing technique when using a retrofitted high speed spindle attached to a high speed machining centre. No significant problems were encountered with vibrational effects of the various components. In terms of wheel life, cutting forces and workpiece surface roughness, little difference was observed between the points with either CBN or diamond abrasive. Tangential and normal grinding forces were shown to be relatively low (20-30N and 60-80N respectively) when using new grinding points. Workpiece surface residual stresses were predominantly compressive, the maximum compressive stress achieved was-1350MPa at a depth of 5 mu m.
