The major global emission sources of N_2O have been considered and for each case, control technologies or practices have been identified that can abate the emissions of N_2O. The cost-effectiveness of these options for reducing, or eliminating, N_2O emissions has been examined and the results expressed in the form of a marginal abatement cost-curve. Overall, the global impact of technologies to reduce N_2O emissions is considered to be small (< 2% of total emissions). The minor extent of the predicted impact is quite different from that expected with other greenhouse gases where abatement technology could achieve substantial changes in emissions.
