A review of modern electron spin resonance (ESR) techniques for studying the dynamic structure of proteins and membranes using nitroxide spin labels is presented. In particular multiple quantum coherence FT-ESR, multiftequency ESR based on high frequency ESR and two dimensional ESR to study the structure and dynamics of bio-membranes and proteins are illustrated by several examples. Distances in biomolecules have been determined accurately. The details of complex dynamics in proteins and the dynamic structure of membranes were characterized.
