An improved high-pressure (up to 500 MPa) cell with diamond windows was developed for small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) of protein solutions, especially optimized for a third-generation synchrotron X-ray source. The performance of the improved cell was examined by measuring the compressibilities of apo-ferritin and cytochrome-C in solutions. The order of the compressibilities of these proteins was consistent with that shown by ultrasonic measurements.
