The dynamic properties of rubber engine mounts are very dependent on the rubber compound formulation. The polymer carbon black and curing system play important roles in the dynamic properties and performance of rubber compounds for automotive and industrial applications. In this paper the effects of two grades of carbon black (N550 and N772) on the tear resistance and on the dynamic properties - spring rate ratio (K{sub}d/K{sub}s) and tanδ - of rubber compounds based in natural rubber (NR) and vulcanised with two different curing systems (normal and semi-efficient) are examined. The dynamic properties are measured using a very simple engine mount. As a result the bases for the selection of the most appropriate compound formulation for the engine mount are established.
