TRANSFORMER LIFE ASSESSMENT AND ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS AS TOOLS IN PRO-ACTIVE AND ADVANCED RISK ASSET MANAGEMENT

This paper addresses some of the tools used in analyzing transformer condition as part of an overall asset management approach. These include transformer life and condition assessment and advanced diagnostics and monitoring used by ABB for proactive-preventive maintenance and advanced risk asset management. The ABB life assessment approach emphasizes the ability to maintain service of the individual transformers and then compares the suitability of each individual unit in a ranking procedure. Basic and advanced diagnostic measurements are used to identify the conditions of transformers focusing particularly on DGA, Frequency Response Analysis and Dielectric Response test.
