In this study, the observation and measurement of the condensation phenomena for steam on the wetted outer surface of thin tubes arranged vertically were performed. The basic characteristics of condensate behaviors such that the wavy condensate appeared by the Reyleigh instability were investigated in the former report. However, the characteristics of thin part of condensate, which is dominant to decide the condensation heat transfer on the thin tubes, was not clarified. In this report, the thickness of thin condensate film, which was appeared between the condensate humps, was measured. The thin film thickness was not dependent upon the position from the top and was around 10 μm thick. Furthermore, the heat transfer characteristics were investigated by using the distribution of condensate film thickness determined experimentally.
