A reduction in the flow resistance and heat transfer coefficient of Brine solution is necessary to realize the effective energy consumption system in a pipeline. This investigation was undertaken to determine the flow drag and heat transfer reduction effect of Ethylene Glycol (=EG) brine with Oleyldihydroxyetyl Amine Oxide (=ODEAO), which was the same additive as in the previous papers. The flow resistance and mean heat transfer coefficient of the EG solution with ODEAO were measured as a function of EG concentration, brine temperature and ODEAO concentration. The experimental results indicated that the flow drag (heat transfer) reduction effect disappeared if the wall shear stress exceeded a certain value. And the certain value of this wall shear stress (= maximum wall shear stress) increased with increasing the EG concentration, ODEAO concentration and brine temperature. And it is found that the maximum shear stress is associated with the mean velocity of the EG solution with ODEAO. The change of the maximum wall shear stress is attributed to the solubilization of ODEAO micelles in the EG brine.
