Experiment on convective heat transfer from a rotating drum with fin array to air is performed to study the effect of the buoyancy-force-induced convection on the heat transfer of the finned surface outside the drum. The diameter of the drum is 326mm, and the fin height and the fin angle are 15mm and 45°, respectively. It is shown by the results obtained from the three types of drums with different fin array that the mixed convection occurs in the most conditions experimented, and that the heat transfer characteristics at very small surface temperature difference conditions are similar to those for the forced convection in the turbulent flow for a rectangular channel.
