Heat transport characteristics of looped-type and unlooped-type self-excited oscillating heat pipes were investigated and the possibility of space application of these heat pipes were examined. The loop-type one worked well in the vertical posture and its maximum effective heat transfer coefficient reaches about 3.5×10{sup}5 W/m{sup}2K. But this didn't work in the horizontal posture. The unlooped-type didn't work in any postures. Therefore, other factors such as the number of turns, the effect of check valves must be examined further for the space application.
