The ripple correlation control (RCC) method is used for optimization of nonlinear systems with power electronic interfacing. The method takes advantage of the small signal ac information contained within the ripple signals to generate localized gradient information. This gradient information is used by the control loop to move the operating point to some optimal condition. This paper demonstrates how an analytical point of view on RCC can be formulated by re-casting the method in a dynamic programming framework. Specifically, RCC is formulated as a gradient ascent (descent) method. Stability and steady state error of the RCC method are also considered in some detail.
