Refining the Art of Low Rank Coal Utilization

摘要

This paper will address the need for upgrading low rank coals to a stable and transportable fuel with higher heating values. With recent breakthroughs in roll briquetting technology, this can be achieved by combining coal drying or mild temperature pyrolysis with roll briquetting either without binders or with binders derived from the processed coals. The upgraded coals that are dense and uniform in shape and size can be used not only for the existing power plants designed for high rank coals, but also for high value industrial applications that require the use of lump coals.
