Applications of RADARSAT-2 polarimetric data

Expected applications improvements provided by dual - and quad-polarised data from RADARSAT-2 are identified. Dual-polarised data is expected to have a wide range of applications. More detailed information is provided by quad-polarised data, but only over narrow swaths. Extra modes can be added to satisfy application needs, e.g. an enhanced alternating polarisation mode. Sea ice monitoring is focus-sed on as an example application. The effect of system noise on polarimetric data analysis is considered as is the potential for polarimetric interferometry. The latter will be limited by temporal decorrelation.
