Assessment of circulatory response to active standing using an ambulatory device for monitoring beat-to-beat cardiovascular parameters

Using a newly developed device which could noninvasively and ambulatory monitor beat-to-beat cardiovascular parameters including blood pressure, cardiac output, total peripheral resistance and so on, an assessment was made for evaluating circulatory response to "active standing" in young and elder subjects. From the results obtained, prolonged decrease in blood pressure and relatively slow response of heart rate was clearly observed in elderly compared with those in young healthy subjects suggesting deterioration in sensitivity of the baroreceptor-cardiac reflex in elder subjects.
