A methodology for the determination of the reliability of a ship hull structure with failure governed by plastic moment and with the variables characterised as furry is presented in the paper. The fuzzy failure function is evaluated at several α-cuts using the vertex method. The membership of the failure function is used to determine the probability of failure. It has been found that the probability of failure evaluated with fuzzy variables is an order of magnitude higher than the failure probability associated with the characterisation of the variables as random.
