A cylindrical superelement has been introduced in order to simplify the process of modeling and solving the finite element problems in which laminated cylinders are involved [1, 2]. This superelement is shown in Fig 1. This superelement is capable of performing the static and dynamic analyses of laminated hollow cylinders with perfect accuracy and efficiency. When rotating, a body undergoes a softening process due to the expansion caused by rotation. This phenomenon is called spin softening effect which decreases the natural frequencies of the rotating body significantly. In this paper the spin softening effect in rotating cylinders is investigated using a newly designed cylindrical superelement.
