The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between the mechanical behavior and damage state of a uniaxial six-ply titanium matrix composite, SCS-6/Timetal 21S, loaded transversely to its fiber-axis orientation. First, a damage state is created by interrupting tensile experiments after different amounts of deformation. Several experiments are conducted at different temperatures to investigate the influence of damage-dominated versus plasticity-dominated deformation regimes. The influence of damage state on the coefficient of thermal expansion and residual strength is determined and related to the constituent properties of the composite.
