Active tank bioleaching environments are characterised by high solids loadings, impeller tip speeds and metal ion concentrations, which together influence the performance of the consortium of microorganisms involved. The influences of these stresses on high temperature Sulfolobus-like cultures have been addressed individually in other studies, however the effects of combined stresses remain unknown. This is the first report of the effect of multiple stresses on Sulfolobus-like cultures in a bioleaching environment.
