Operation and Maintenance of Telecommunication Equipment in Offshore Oil and Gas Rigs Located on Norwegian Continental Shelf

Telecommunication is a very important part of any offshore oil and gas rig, because it provides connectivity within and outside a platform. This telecommunication system consists of equipment like Public Address and General Alarm (PAGA) system, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radio, Very High Frequency (VHF) radio, antennas and radars. All this equipment is prone to failures during its operational lifetime due to exposure to the harsh weather conditions of the North Sea. Since this equipment is classified as safety critical equipment these failures have to be minimized. Hence special focus is given to maintaining the health of all this equipment. This paper discusses the issues related to the maintenance of telecommunication equipment.
