Panel contribution analysis (PCA) can be used to predict the noise emissions from machinery at selected receiver positions. Machinery is discretized into patches and then measurements are made of the volume velocity for each patch with the machinery operating. Likewise, transfer functions are measured between each patch and the receiver position, normally reciprocally, with the equipment not operating. Though the method has been applied in numerous studies, there are currently few guidelines for measuring volume velocities and reciprocal measurement of acoustic transfer functions. The current research looks at these concerns using two-dimensional Rayleigh integral calculations and offers practical guidelines.
