Experimental Investigation of Self-pierced Riveted Joints in Composite Structures

Self-piercing riveting has been presented as an alternative method to join composite structures. Although the joints have a lower structural performance than corresponding bolted and adhesive bonded joints, the manufacturing benefits such as short cycle times and absence of dust and toxic substances make the technique attractive for components where manufacturing benefits outweigh the need for high structural performance.
