Penetration and perforation resistances are important characteristics of laminated composite plates subjected to impact loading. Based on an equal energy criterion, penetration and perforation resistances are identified as the lower bound and upper bound of the equal energy zone, respectively, which is defined to have equal energy between impacting, i.e. impact energy, and absorption, i.e. absorbed energy. This study investigates penetration and perforation resistances of thick laminated glass/epoxy composite plates. The effects of laminate thickness and impactor size on the resistances are of primary concerns.
