Strength Analysis of Filament-Wound Fiber-Reinforced Composite Pipes under Internal Pressure

This paper describes the results of analytical and experimental studies on fracture strength of filament-wound (FW) fiber-reinforced composite pipes under internal pressure load. Based on a maximum stress failure criterion that gives the modes of failure, we present a theoretical approach to the prediction of failure strength under internal pressure. The experimental and theoretical investigation reveals failure modes of FW pipes with different winding angle. Experimental failure loads (pressure at failure) are compared with theoretical loads and there is good correlation between theory and experiment.
