Digitisation of unpublished heritage collections at the national library of new zealand

This paper discusses the work undertaken by the National Library of New Zealand to digitise and make publicly available a major heritage collection of manuscripts, drawings, prints and photographs belonging to Lord Ranfurly, Governor General of New Zealand between 1897 and 1904. The Ranfurly Collection is the National Library's first New Zealand heritage collection to be fully digitised. The paper discusses the successes and shortcomings of this project, and concludes with a summary of the rich learning experiences that came out of the project that the Library will be able to incorporate and build upon for future digitisation projects.
