'THE DURO 4×4 AND 6×6' - A NEW CONCEPT FOR A FAMILYOF SOFT-SKINNED AND PROTECTED OFF-ROAD VEHICLES

The authors describe a new concept for a family of soft-skinned and armoured off-road all-wheel drive trucks based on the same unconventional concept. In addition to this, test results with these vehicles carried out by the producer, the Swiss, the Czech and the Austrian Armed Forces are presented. Budget constraints of all armed forces have created a need for multi-purpose vehicles. The main idea of this concept is to design vehicles in a modular way for both military missions and civilian tasks on three basic chassis types: The 4×4 vehicle with short and long wheelbase, and the 6x6 vehicle, all with several superstructures. Nowadays there is a need for peacekeeping operations to provide unmatched protection for military units and civilian aid workers who are increasingly facing unpredictable threats. The concept of the armoured versions is based on the same design principles is presented too.
