Buildings along a street can significantly increase the noise level in the street canyon due to multiple reflections. In order to examine the effect of urban texture on the acoustic environment, this paper compares the sound fields in typical UK and Hong Kong street canyons - between UK cities and Hong Kong there are considerable differences in street configuration, especially in terms of street aspect ratio and boundary conditions. The comparison is based on three computer simulation models, namely the image source model, the radiosity model and beam tracing. The indices compared include noise distribution and reverberation time. The results show that in comparison with UK streets, in Hong Kong streets the sound level is generally higher and reverberation time is much longer.
