Perturbation of monomer and initiator feeds to flow reactors allows control over the molecular weight distributions (MWDs) of the polymers formed from living polymerisation processes. The relationship between feed profiles and MWD is obtained by simulation. Here, the derivation and use of an inverse model obtained using neural network methods which might form the basis of a real-time control system is outlined.
