A viscous/potential coupled approach featuring panel method improved with viscosity corrections to blade section drag and lift as applied to propeller flow and RANS solver as applied to pod housing flow is employed to predict the open water characteristics of pulling and pushing podded propulsors under model and full scale conditions. The details of meshing of computation domain and coupling technique are discussed. The numerical predictions are compared with experimental data from the model tests in terms of propeller characteristics, unit resistance and induced velocity fields. Scale effects on propeller characteristics, pod resistance and interaction coefficients are studied.
