We discuss the well-known Mode Coupling Theory (MCT) for super-cooled liquids. In the light of a recent derivation, the theory is based on the single assumption that the random noise involved in the stochastic equations for the density variables of the system is Gaussian. As a result, the Random Phase Approximation must hold between the static structure factor and the potential. Thus, this provides a framework for investigating the validity of MCT and may be useful as a starting point for successive improvements of it.
