Some Key Techniques for the Static Overall Model Test on Super Spatial Structures

In the past seven years, models of a steel roof structure of the Shanghai Grand Theater, a spatial saddle-shaped roof of the 80,000-seat Shanghai Stadium, an 83m-span roof truss of Shanghai Pudong International Airport Terminal, and a 50m-diameter single-layer dome of Shanghai International Convention Center, have been tested at Tongji University. This paper presents those key experimental techniques, including model design, loading system and instrumentation set-up as well as data acquisition system on super spatial structures based on these static overall model tests. The relationships between the overall model test and its full-scale joint test, dynamic test, experimental theory, and numerical simulation have also been studied.
