HD isotopic exchange experiments carried out over sulfided catalysts showed that part of the exchangeable hydrogen measured by isotopic dilution came from the support and depended on the pretreatment conditions. This hydrogen was essentially present as H_2S adsorbed on the alumina support. D_2 (and D_2S) adsorption followed by FTIR confirmed the involvement of support hydrogen.
