The paper presents an approach to coarsening operators. Representation Theorems, presented by Negoita and Ralescu, can be applied to determine a class of coarsenings of an L-set defined by means of a topology on U, as discussed in [5]. Specific coarsening operators, namely, natural and complement coarsening operators are defined, and some properties of those are presented. Especially, a characterization on the existence of a weakening operator as a complement coarsening operator is presented.
