Coextrusion of a thin layer of Kynar~(~R) PVDF on a thick thermoplastic substrate is a cost efficient way to combine the high performances (weatherability, surface properties) of fluoropolymers with the mechanical properties (impact resistance, rigidity) of commodity resins. Such multilayer structures are of interest to the building and automotive industries. In this paper we report on the influence of the surface (ratio fluoropolymer to acrylic resin) on such properties as surface gloss, solvent resistance, ease of cleaning graffiti, scratch or abrasion resistance, long term U.V. resistance (gloss and color retention), interfacial adhesion and impact resistance.
