Llama medical research of South American camelias in North America

Llama medical research began small in 1987. Investigations have become more complex, of longer duration and more costly. Most research is done by scientists at academic institutions. Studies with regulatory implications may be done collaborating withresearchers of official agencies such as the USDA. Most larger studies are peer reviewed by the Morris Animal Foundation with input from the llama industry. Funding is voluntary by organizations and individuals.
