Chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds such as pesticide and herbicide have been widely used in the entire world. DDT is a kind of pesticide and is metabolized to DDD and DDE. C-heavy oil, spilled oil from the overturned tanker and industrial waste oil are also environmental polluting substrates. In this study, the bioremediation abilities for DDD, DDE, C-heavy oil and spilled oil were experimentally confirmed by using natural bacteria, which had been sampled in many local areas in Japan. Bioremediation experiments were conducted using molasses and glucose liquid medium added with these environmental polluting substrates. The addition of DDD resulted in a 55% degradation after a 20-day culture, DDE in a 40% only after a 4-day culture, both by inoculating KM strain. There existed the cases when the addition of DDE resulted in a 55% degradation after a 19-day culture by inoculating OR bacterial group. The addition of C-heavy oil resulted in a 94% degradation after a 7-day culture by inoculating OR. The experimental results proved that some special kinds of bacteria easily degraded environmental polluting substrates, which were very difficult to be degraded by the other techniques.
