Why bother with continuing education (CE), especially in such a seemingly "dry" topic such as informatics? It is often said, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." Most of us attend CE not just becauseprofessional licensure requires it, but to stay current, and, we hope, to improve our patient outcomes and our practice return on investment (ROI). This may sound like an outrageous claim, but by improving your medical record-keeping in ways that optimize your ability to learn from your own and your colleagues' experiences, and then reviewing what worked and what hasn't worked, you will do more to enhance patient care than almost any other continuing education effort you might have undertaken. It's hard to get excited about informatics, but we love good patient outcomes.
