Veterinarians know that behavior consulting appointments require a significant time investment. Behavior concerns that clients ask about or that veterinarians observe when the pet is in the hospital cannot be adequately addressed with a "try this, trythat" approach. Pet owners can come away feeling they've "tried everything," even though they haven't tried the right thing because the behavior concern has not been carefully analyzed for the right approach. Owners have limited amounts of resources—time, patience and money—to devote to resolving their pets' behavior problem (or medical concern). They must be used wisely.
