The present work describes experimental measurements and numerical simulations relevant to the coating process of optical fibers in pressurized and unpressurized applicators. The experimental work focused on the influence of simulated entrance geometry using micropipettes tubes of different diameters, applicator pressures and fiber speeds on air entrapment and on the shape of the upstream coating meniscus. Computed results include the shape of the flow field, the pressure distribution and effect of tube length.
