摘要

Canine obesity is a condition that leads to serious alterations in various body functions and limits the longevity of the animals.Obesity may be considered as a disease in itself. Until the end of the 1980s, there was little clinical data on the conditions associated with canine obesity. Obesity is associated with many non-communicable diseases, such as joint, cardiovascular, respiratory, and kidney diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), dyslipidemia, and arterial hypertension. These diseases arisefrom two mechanisms: from the metabolic changes associated with excess fat, as with DM, and from the increased fat mass itself, as it is clearly the case for joint diseases.
