The objective of our work is to evalaute the usefulness of mucoadhesive patches for drug delivery to the mucosa of the small intestine. In the present study, various patch formulations containing different mucoadhesive polymers from the groups of carbomers and carboxy-methylcellulose sodium were tested for their drug release, mucoadhesive strength and drug permeation through excised porcine duodenal mucosa.
