In the recent years, the quantity and complexity of polymer-matrix parts used in the aircraft industry has increased steadily. The increasing complexity of these parts has made ultrasonic inspection using piezoelectric transducers slow and therefore expensive. Hence, a new ultrasonic technique insensitive to the orientation of the sample surface was developed: laser-ultrasonics.
