摘要

The Hawaiian ecosystem is fragile and under attack by a number of normative species. On the island of Maui lives a flock of mitered conures (Aratinga mitrata), whose origins can be traced to a single pair of pets. Making their homes on sheer cliff faces, the conures have both fans and critics. Protected in the past by difficult access, their numbers have increased from the single pair to 100 or more. Efforts to control them over time are described, including renewed activities as they have expanded to neighboring cliffs. Time will tell whether the efforts to remove them by any means possible will proceed or be successful.
